Qualifications

• Librarian shall be certified and licensed in accordance with state law and the regulations of the Mississippi Department of Education.
• Criminal background check and current child abuse registry check are required as per Mississippi law.

Responsibilities

• Operate and supervise the media center at the assigned school.
• Evaluate, select and requisition new media center materials.
• Assist teachers in selecting books and other instructional materials.
• Inform teachers about new materials acquired by the media center.
• Maintain a comprehensive cataloging system and instruct users on its use.
• Arrange interlibrary loan of materials for staff and students.
• Work with teachers to plan assignments utilizing media resources.
• Promote appropriate student conduct in the media center.
• Help students develop independent reference skills and use of reference materials.
• Present and discuss materials with classes studying specific topics.
• Participate in curriculum meetings and reading guidance for students.
• Arrange book displays and exhibits to engage patrons.
• Prepare and administer the media center budget.
• Supervise media center aides and clerical staff.
• Weed obsolete materials and ensure smooth media center operations.
• Other duties as assigned by the Principal/Director.
