Job summary

Briar Vista ES within the DeKalb County School District is seeking a Library Media Assistant to support teachers and students with media resources and reading initiatives. The role focuses on service in the library, collection maintenance, and collaboration on curriculum activities.

Entry-level duties include assisting patrons, organizing materials, and using library software, with a Master’s in Library Science or related field preferred and relevant experience required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library Science, Education or closely related field required.
• Minimum of one year professional level library/media center experience required.
• High School Diploma or Associate degree with relevant experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Assist patrons with locating, checking out, and returning media materials.
• Provide information and assistance to students and teachers as appropriate.
• Maintain and organize library collections, including shelving and displays.
• Support instructional staff by maintaining library software resources and assisting with lesson plans.
• Perform administrative tasks including financial records for fines, inventory, and related records.
• Operate and troubleshoot library technology and equipment; distribute instructional gear as needed.
• Collaborate with teachers on events and programs promoting literature and literacy.
• Conduct workshops and training to facilitate effective use of LMC resources.
• Monitor LMC operations in the absence of the Teacher-Librarian.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education

MLS/Library Sci degree

Professional library experience

High School Diploma/Associate degree with relevant experience
