The University of New Hampshire Library is seeking a conscientious, responsible and dependable individual to join our organization in the position of Library Manager, Facilities Program Lead (Grade 17 starting range from $56,000 to $60,000). The ideal candidate for this salaried position thrives in a team-based environment, demonstrates sound decision-making, and brings a balance of strategic planning and hands-on problem-solving to facilities management in an academic library setting.
The incumbent leads the Library’s Facilities program and through that program guides the space planning and facilities operations of the UNH Library to ensure Library physical spaces are safe, secure, welcoming, and inclusive. This role also contributes to the work of the Information Services and Human Resources programs.
Leads Facilities program and participates in Information Services and Human Resources programs.
As Facilities Program lead, coordinate efforts to cultivate safe, secure, and inclusive Library spaces on the Durham campus including a Library Storage Building by developing and, reviewing policies, procedures, establishing priorities and with Program Lead colleagues set and monitor annual program goals.
This position is responsible for reviewing and implementing systems and policies at a high- level while also organizing and troubleshooting operations at a detailed level to find efficiencies and make the best possible use of resources.
In consultation with the Information Services program, contribute to managing the daily operations of library information desks, in both in-person and virtual settings, including coordinating virtual information services, triaging virtual patron correspondence and assuming responsibility for information desk operations in the absence of the information desk manager.
Role requires knowledge, skills and abilities in planning and facilitating along with the ability to make impactful decisions in assigned areas including facilities (safety, security, space use and repair and renovation), personnel (policy/procedure/process development/review). Consults with appropriate librarian faculty and program lead colleagues regarding policies, procedures and provision of services.
Serves as Administrative Partner and adjunct/student supervisor.
This is a full-time, salaried position (with some flexibility needed - 40 hours/week over 5 days, typically Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm) and with some opportunity for remote work.

Duties/Responsibilities
50% (20 hours/week)
As Facilities program lead, facilitate significant projects (e.g. HVAC projects, space renovations), emergency action planning and response and daily operational tasks (e.g. drafting and communicating semester hours, coordinating hours and staffing during university curtailed operations and building access including facilitating room reservation system). May make complex and sometimes urgent decisions related to life and safety, facilities and maintenance issues. Review, monitor and implement facility related improvements to accessibility (both patron and employee), security and other building related issues and concerns. With stakeholder input, review and revise the Library’s Emergency Action Plan and recommend safety/security training.
Consult and negotiate with vendors, architects, designers, mechanical, engineering, electrical and plumbing consultants, campus planning and partners (Student Accessibility Services, Dining Services, Enterprise, Technology & Services, Writing Center and other departments as needed) to allocate resources to improve physical spaces and services (e.g. printing, room reservations, public announcement system, card swipe access). Coordinate task forces to plan and implement improvements to public and staff spaces (including accessibility, wayfinding, environmental conditions and ergonomic concerns). The impact of these complex decisions can be long term and significant to the library and the campus and wider community. Prepare facility-related presentations, proposals and reports (including long-range planning) for library spaces. May develop or provide input on partner memoranda of understanding.
Liaise with Library Deans and University Departments including Provost, Deans’ Offices, Facilities, Campus Stewardship, and the Foundation to coordinate facility related initiatives, programming and event/meeting space requests. Represent Library on campus-wide committees and working groups (e.g. Facilities Points of Contact,) as needed. Review, revise and draft facility related policies and procedures including room use guidelines. In collaboration with the Digital/IT Program Lead, assists with the management of library equipment as needed.
40% (16 hours/week)
In consultation with the Information Services program, provide information and circulation assistance at the library’s Information Desks, including but not limited to circulation of materials, physical and remote patron services, registering borrowers, assisting patrons with the use of library physical and online library resources, explaining and interpreting library policy, directing patrons to various collections and departments, and responding to patron inquiries via multiple communication mechanisms. Responsible for coordination of virtual reference services and has oversight of the LibAnswers Dashboard. Contributes to student hiring decisions and is responsible for onboarding new student hires into workday.
May be required to open the library and cover evening and/or weekend hours when needed. Rotates on-call responsibilities for weekend coverage as needed. Communicate regularly with evening and weekend staff, to ensure smooth and consistent workflow between day, evening, and weekend operations Primary contact for temporary changes to evening schedules as needed or desired to accommodate evening staff attendance for daytime meetings, events, training etc., while working with management team to ensure a balance of coverage for evening hours.
Assist patrons with the online catalog and in-person, phone, and online requests for UNH, UNH Manchester, and ILL materials, and triage reference questions.
Plan, organize and implement changes to Circulation services, practices, or policies in accordance with program goals. May lead proxy role initiatives, projects, proposals, or committees based on the program’s needs. Review and make recommendations regarding policies for the program.
10% (4 hours/week)
Through the role of Administrative Partner, support 2-3 OS employees by performing coaching check-ins throughout the year and compile feedback to inform the annual coaching for performance process for coachees. Support and encourage employee growth and development through established coaching mechanisms (including individual conversations, learning opportunities identification and support, managing performance improvement if/when necessary and contributions to the merit process). As a member of the Human Resources program, and with the Human Resources Program Lead and the Associate Dean, coordinate and implement AAEO (accommodation) processes if/when needed. Through participation in the Human Resources program, identify, plan and implement library-wide training opportunities. Participate in employee hiring and recruitment of both regular benefitted and adjunct labor as needed. Record employee time and leave semi-monthly.

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience and/or combination of higher education and related work experience equal to six years
OR
Equivalent combination of education and/or experience that provides applicant with the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful in the role.
