Description
This position supports the public services functions of the University Libraries through effective management of student and staff employees, participation in reference desk rotation, and customer service, network, and user support assistance.
  1. Hire, train, supervise, and schedule student workers to provide user assistance and customer service.
  2. Participate in the reference desk rotation, providing reference assistance to library users.
  3. Participate in service desk rotation (circulation and reserves) and resolve public service issues.
  4. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Library Specialist(s) and/or staff.
  5. Collaborate with Library Systems (computing and networking) staff to identify and resolve issues in public computing services; coordinate with ILS staff as needed.
  6. Participate in the Libraries' Public Workstations Committee to establish and review policies on public computing services.
  7. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Management of Digital Research Commons (DRC)
This position manages the DRC facility, coordinating physical, virtual, and hybrid research environments through collaboration with various departments. Responsibilities include managing student labor, space, equipment, and software needs, and engaging in future initiatives like the development of the Digital Humanities Core (DHC).
Specific Duties
  • Oversee daily administrative functions of the DRC, including data collection, documentation, calendar management, website maintenance, and open hours.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and schedule student workers for DRC operations.
  • Develop assessment processes for DRC resources.
  • Manage software, technology, and equipment in collaboration with Library Technology Services, recommending improvements.
  • Oversee user accounts and space allocations within DHC infrastructures.
  • Coordinate with Library Technology Services and IT to resolve public computing issues.
  • Work with the Building Administrator to resolve physical space issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
  • Familiarity with technologies and equipment used by academic researchers.
  • Experience creating or following policies and procedures in an academic setting.
  • Understanding of best practices in assessing academic spaces or operations.
Preferred
  • Experience managing student employees.
  • Experience with web hosting or cloud environment administration.
