Job summary

College of Central Florida seeks a Library Instruction Coordinator to lead and evolve the library instruction program, delivering on-site and online sessions and collaborating with faculty. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, design, implement and maintain the library instruction program across on-site, online, and at other college sites.
  • Develop and implement an information literacy program based on institutional learning outcomes and industry best practices.
  • Develop a program to evaluate the effectiveness of library and information literacy instruction; gather, analyze and report data.
  • Serve as librarian liaison to several departments including instruction and collection development.
  • Participate in library collection maintenance and development.
  • Provide reference and research services at the reference desk.
  • Collaborate with Library and Learning Resources staff to improve services.
  • Maintain technical proficiency to modernize the design and delivery of research and instruction.
  • Create research guides in collaboration with fellow librarians.
  • Participate in outreach and events to maintain the library's campus presence.
  • Participate in professional development and serve on college committees.
  • Supervise student assistants and part-time staff as needed.
  • Work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY

Responsible for understanding best practices, current trends, and new technologies for designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating library instruction and information literacy with a strong customer service ethic. In collaboration with the Library Director, the Library Instruction Coordinator oversees the day‑to‑day management of the instruction program.

PREREQUISITES FOR POSITION (Qualification Standards)
  1. Education or training: ALA‑accredited Master's Degree in Library Science/Information Science required.
  2. Years of experience in the field: A minimum of two years of professional experience in a library or learning resource center is required, to include at least one year of experience delivering library instruction and hands‑on experience using automated library management systems, electronic databases, instructional technologies, integrated systems, and the Internet. One year of experience coordinating library instruction efforts and evidence of creative or innovative teaching is preferred.
  3. Special skills or abilities related to the position: Ability to build strong connections with students and faculty in order to provide effective instructional programming. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to manage projects and work in a team‑based, ever‑changing environment. Commitment to the college learning commons concept. Evidence of initiative, resourcefulness, and adaptability. Knowledge of standards and best practices in library instruction and information literacy.
