Job summary

Handley Regional Library is seeking a technology-savvy customer service helper to assist patrons at the busy public service desk. Nights and weekends required; 21 hours per week at $15.00 per hour. Reports to the Information Services Coordinator and is non-exempt under FLSA.

Under supervision, the Library Assistant performs paraprofessional duties, helps patrons use catalogs, databases, and online resources, and supports shelving and desk maintenance.

Qualifications

• Two-year college degree required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience assisting patrons at public service desks is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provides quick, correct and professional answers for basic to intermediate inquiries using online resources and the library's collections.
• Helps patrons locate materials and makes recommendations based on reading preferences.
• Instructs patrons in using access systems, including the catalog, databases, and online resources.
• Assists with using library spaces and shelving as needed.
• Maintains periodicals and displays; assists with routine desk maintenance.
