Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in library science (ALA accredited) or closely related field; seven years in finance or accounting with five years in supervision.

SALARY RANGE: $64,663.30 - $100,235.20

Works under the direction of the Library Public Service Administrator to manage the operations and maintain the safety standards of the library’s community outreach programming agencies, services and facilities, including a fleet of public service mobile units. Supervises agency managers to facilitate growth, development, performance, and productivity. Manages assigned agencies in terms of overall performance, service patterns, work output, and system efficiency. Administers and/or makes recommendations on personnel matters affecting subordinates to include providing work direction, assignment of duties, interviewing, hiring, training, performance management, supervision and disciplinary processes. Monitors the physical condition and security of interior and exterior public areas and maintains safety and cleanliness standards. Submits reports of impairment, damage, safety, cleaning, maintenance, and security concerns. Establish an effective framework for researching, evaluating, and executing effective community outreach services and programming. Initiates inter-region and inter-agency cooperative efforts to support and enhance operation and service. Works with staff throughout the library system to create strategies for developing and maintaining community outreach programming that is a platform to build awareness of and to cultivate audiences for all library services. Assesses and evaluates outreach, community engagement programming and activities for effectiveness, and makes recommendations for service improvements. Develops strategies that strengthen community connections and partnerships through outreach and programming. Identifies and develops opportunities for new initiatives to expand the Library’s market reach and improve public image and operation. Develops avenues to engage in ongoing community conversation to keep abreast of community needs. Provides vision and leadership for management in developing community outreach strategies and initiatives. Visits and attends various libraries and other locations around the City for meetings, workshops, and training seminars Serves as a member or chair of library, City, and community committees to support organizational initiatives, strategic partnerships, and collaborative efforts.

Typical Physical Demands

Requires ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing with management, staff, employees, volunteers, media, community leaders, city officials, and the general public. Requires the ability to operate a company vehicle to travel to meetings throughout the City. Requires the ability to use photo equipment, a computer, copier, telephone and other office equipment. Requires the ability to lift 40 pounds without assistance.

Typical Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office environment. May travel to various meetings and events throughout the City. May be required to possibly work nights/weekends and/or working outdoors in all types of weather.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in library science from and ALA accredited library school, or closely related field and seven (7) years of experience in finance or accounting with five (5) of the seven (7) years in a supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment. Master’s degree strongly preferred. Working experience in a large public library agency preferred.
