Job summary

Judson Independent School District is seeking a Library Clerk to support the district-wide library program. The role assists the school librarian, manages circulation, prepares instructional materials, and helps students and staff with technology and resources.

Qualifications

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist the school librarian in organizing and providing materials, both print and non-print, for student and teacher use

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Must meet one of these requirements:
    • Minimum of forty-eight (48) semester college, or
    • Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or
    • Have met formal academic assessment as required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) or No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
  • Eligible to obtain an Educational Aide certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification
  • CPR, First Aid and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certified, to be completed within 90 days of hire
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check

  • Proficient typing, keyboarding, and file maintenance skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well with students

  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to learning
  • Perform tasks under general supervision of a librarian
  • Assist the librarian in routine clerical tasks and participate in selecting, planning, organizing and evaluating the library program; as instructed by the librarian
  • Assist the librarian in the various aspects of book circulation activities, including the issue, receipt, and re-shelving of books, materials, and equipment
  • Follow the processing instructions for new books, weeding, and inventory as requested by the librarian
  • Submit all requests or needs for subject-related materials and equipment through the librarian
  • Keep the librarian informed of special needs or concerns of individual students and staff
  • Provide a safe and conducive atmosphere for the library program using routines established by the librarian at the campus.

  • Assist students, staff, and parents with a variety of technology (i.e. Chromebooks, laptops, desktops, iPads, Kindle Fire Tablets, pointers, wireless mice, document cameras, USB ports, etc.)
  • Assist students, staff, and parents with software and web-based platforms used by JISD (i.e. TexQuest resources, Destiny, Sora, Google Suite, Discovery Education, Microsoft products, etc.)
  • Initiate help desk tickets for technology issues
  • Prepare materials for classroom or reserved collection use as requested by teachers, with the guidance of the librarian
  • Prepare bulletin boards and displays, with the guidance of the librarian
  • Assist the librarian in preparing instructional materials
  • Perform routine maintenance for texts/equipment (i.e. repair books, magazines, materials)
  • Assist in initiating, and submitting requisitions for needed repairs for the library from outside facilities
  • Attend appropriate in-service training sessions
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner (i.e. including but not limited to shelving books, weeding, inventory, preparing lesson materials, curating materials, other tasks assigned by the librarian)
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by campus administration (i.e. including but not limited to bus duty, lunch duty, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needs
  • Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
  • Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
  • Ability to use a personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision and evaluation of District personnel is not a requirement of the position; however, the supervision of students is required.

Equipment Used:

  • Office equipment - personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to read, concentrate, communicate effectively (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute, analyze, differentiate
  • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving
  • Occasional: Lifting, heavy, 45 pounds or more

Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)
