Job summary

Westside Library is seeking a Children's Assistant, Grade 17, to join our Headquarters Library team in Spartanburg. The role focuses on maintaining an inviting children's area, assisting patrons, and delivering reader's advisory support.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree and experience with children, plus the ability to work 20 hours per week, Monday-Thursday 3pm-8pm, with some schedule flexibility for changes and outreach as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with children experience.
• Comfortable using technology.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication.
• Creative, flexible, organized with good time management.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Strong work ethic and initiative.
• Experience with children birth through age 12 and knowledge of children's literature.
• Awareness of MFA and mobile device usage.
• Driver's license valid in the State of South Carolina; travel to other libraries.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an attractive children's area with displays and signage.
• Participate in department meetings, committee meetings, online discussions, and book reviews.
• Provide superior customer service to patrons of all ages for information and reader's advisory requests, computers, digital devices, and other library equipment.
• Complete regular training related to Children's services and other library work.
• Remain aware of safety and security at all times.
• Substitute for other programs, departments, and branches as needed.
