We operate 20 locations, online services, and outreach programs to deliver exceptional library experiences.

Position Summary

The full-time Library Assistant provides high-quality library services, ensuring valuable experiences for all customers and supporting routine library functions.

Location: Steele Creek Library, 13620 Steele Creek Rd, Charlotte, NC 28273

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week. Wednesdays 11:00am – 8:00pm; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8:00am – 5:00pm; alternating Fridays and Saturdays 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Essential Functions

  • Promote the library’s collection and services
  • Perform circulation activities
  • Provide service desk coverage
  • Manage materials transfer
  • Assist customers with research and library systems
  • Train and assist customers on policies and procedures
  • Collaborate on programming and outreach
  • Assist with volunteer management
  • Shelve and weed collections

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one year of customer service experience, including library or retail
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Relevant education and experience may be combined.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of integrated library systems (e.g., Polaris)
  • Bilingual skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of alpha-numeric sorting and library systems
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and time management skills
  • Adaptability, effective communication, teamwork, and professional development

Computer Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other applications.

Work Environment

Office setting with moderate noise; interaction with children and teens from nearby schools and programs.
