Job summary

Hillsdale Free Public Library seeks a part-time Library Assistant to support circulation desks on Saturdays and during substitute hours. The ideal candidate thrives on interpersonal interaction, loves books and learning, and can assist patrons with library tech and services.

Responsibilities include operating the ILS, helping patrons locate items, guiding technology use, and sustaining a welcoming atmosphere. Pay is $16.50/hr, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent desired, but will consider mature high school students.
• Customer service experience.
• Proficiency with technology, computers, devices, browsers, and mobile devices.
• Fluency in the English language.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Execute routine library tasks using the ILS (integrated library system).
• Search the library catalog and assist patrons.
• Explain library policies and procedures to the public.
• Help patrons locate items.
• Assist the public with technology, fax/printing/photocopier and basic browser use.
• Handle interlibrary deliveries and packing/unpacking.
• Prepare new books/media for circulation.
• Record reservations for programs and facilities, including public computers and study rooms.
• Recommend books/movies/music to patrons.
• Reshelve library items.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
