Job description

Under direct supervision, provides reference and reader advisory services and assists with planning and presenting Library programs.

  1. Provides reference and reader advisory services to Library patrons.
  2. Provides instruction and assistance in the use of the Library catalog, print and digital collections, copy and print equipment, and other resources and services.
  3. Assists with planning, promoting, presenting, and evaluating Library programs, including outreach services.
  4. Assists with the creation of displays and informational materials.
  5. Assists supervisor in departmental planning and preparing reports.
  6. Maintains awareness of literature services, reference sources, and public library trends, methods, and ethics.
  7. Informs supervisor of all work activities.
  8. Adheres to departmental, personnel, and safety rules and regulations.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:

Associates or equivalent experience in a related field is required.

Work Experience:

One (1) year of public library experience is preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of public library operations practices and principles.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Skilled in using a personal computer and office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain good relations with the public and staff, demonstrating courtesy and tact.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, prioritize, organize work, and maintain a friendly demeanor.
