Job Summary
The Library Assistant provides support to students, faculty, and staff within the Learning Resource Center in areas such as circulation, reserve collections, reading room supervision, and other duties as assigned. This is a part-time, weekend position working Saturdays and Sundays from 3 PM to 11 PM.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist at the circulation desk with processing interlibrary loans, checking materials in and out, and reserving books.
- Instruct patrons on the use of media and equipment, operate equipment, answer phones, and handle overdue items.
- Orient patrons to library services, locate media, and explain the use of the Public Access catalog.
- Record departmental statistics and assist with administration of the Papercut printing system.
- Represent the department professionally and courteously to faculty, staff, visitors, and patrons.
- Support professional activities within the Learning Resource Center, including preparing acquisition lists, bibliographies, user statistics, and binding preparations.
- Assist users with electronic resources and databases accessible from LRC computers.
- Ensure compliance with internal, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA and safety guidelines.
- Maintain and protect equipment appropriately.
- Contribute to the mission of LECOM by participating in institutional fundraising and community outreach activities.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support department needs.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; experience in customer service preferred; familiarity with academic or medical libraries is a plus.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle ambiguous situations with common sense.
- Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain a schedule, prioritize tasks, and work cooperatively with others.
- Proficiency with computers and data entry; ability to handle confidential information.
- Flexibility to accept additional duties as assigned.
