Description of Work:
The Library Assistant III position is an advanced level classification in the Library Assistant series. Level III is responsible for overseeing a specific library section or service and provides some supervision of other library support staff. Library Assistant III in Outreach is under the direct supervision of the Community Engagement Librarian III and general guidance of the Library Director. This position assists in the creation and implementation of outreach services for all ages within the communities of Lee County, NC. T he Library Assistant III in Outreach Services is the lead person in programming and services delivered to all ages across Lee County. Institutions include but are not limited to day care centers, preschools, elementary/middle/high schools, senior living centers, nursing homes, county departments, and homebound patrons.

Essential functions:
This position requires exemplary customer service skills and a commitment to outstanding service as a representative of the Library and the County Government out in the community. Creation and facilitation of programming to diverse populations at a variety of facilities and institutions in the County; plans, prepares and manages the Homebound Delivery Program for homebound and shut-in patrons at personal homes, assists living, rehab, and nursing home facilities; maintains and manages outreach collections at various locations around the county providing materials of interest for focus group of facility; delivers collection materials and donations to organizations and institutions in the County; represents the Library and sets up informational table/booth/tent at various County, City, and community group events throughout the year; handles complaints and resolve technical problems; maintains records and prepare reports; assists with special library projects; participates in section or library management, assists with budget activities, overall planning, and goal setting; supervises and trains Library Assistants and volunteers assigned to Outreach Services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General knowledge of basic library procedures, methods, and techniques, as well as library circulation functions, office procedures and record maintenance techniques. General knowledge of the use of library equipment, materials, and resources. Ability to operate standard office and computer equipment, to perform word processing and data entry, and to file and organize alphabetically and numerically. Ability to work steadily and accurately, exercise initiative without direct supervision, work pleasantly and effectively with coworkers and the public through various mediums, effectively train part-time employees and volunteers, follow written and verbal instructions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree or an associate degree with 2-3 years of experience in Outreach Services. A minimum of two years of relevant work experience, a technology background, and excellent customer service skills are preferred. Experience with Evergreen ILS is also preferred, and bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
