Job description

Reports to: Head of Adult Services

Starting Salary: $16.35 per hour

Schedule: Part-time 20 hour-per-week union position, including at least one evening per week and alternate Fridays and Saturdays.

Position Summary: The Library Assistant I performs a wide range of on-desk entry-level clerical and manual library functions. Work involves frequent patron contact; requires use of automated library systems for various clerical tasks. As assigned, performs off-desk duties.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED. Preferred experience/skill includes clerical or library work, including computer systems, and/or language proficiency in Polish, Spanish or other language spoken by patrons.

Excellent customer service skills and an ability to effectively interact with a diverse community. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency in computers and office equipment, including excellent keyboarding skills. Strong understanding of Google Workspace and the Microsoft Suite.

Requires attention to detail and ability to do tasks of a repetitive nature.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides excellent customer service by fostering a welcoming library atmosphere, greeting community members, and responding to user requests with friendly, helpful support.
  • Communicates clearly and patiently to assist users of all experience levels in the basic operation of technical equipment and software.
  • Assists patrons with logging onto computers using the library's registration system.
  • Promptly reports technology issues to the Computer Technician or manager.
  • Handles a variety of clerical and technical tasks in the assigned area, including retrieving materials as needed.
  • Enforces the Library Code of Conduct.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
