Do you have the desire to make a meaningful impact by engaging with a vibrant and diverse community through a world-class public library system? The City of Irvine is seeking multiple collaborative and customer service-oriented individuals for the role of Library Assistant I in developing Irvine's new public library system. The Librarian Assistant provides a variety of paraprofessional and technical library assistance to the public under direct or general supervision. Note that this position may require occasional evening and weekend shifts.

Library Assistant I (extended part-time/part-time) - $26.86 - $42.26 Hourly

Your Impact
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist library customers with services and technology, providing basic information and research assistance.
  • Support collection maintenance as directed.
  • Help implement general library programming and activities.
  • Interpret and apply library policies and procedures for customers.
  • Participate in community and outreach events.
  • Supervise facility rentals and enforce reservation rules.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications include any combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Typically, this would be:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or one year of experience working as a Library Assistant or higher. College coursework in Library Science or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Ability to apply City Library policies and procedures.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written, for diverse audiences.
  • Basic knowledge of library resources and technology.
