Description
The Library Assistant I position at the City of Azle is a full-time role that offers a unique opportunity to engage with the public and support library operations. We welcome innovative, community-focused, and teamwork-driven candidates. Applicants must be effective communicators and comfortable working with people of all ages, dispositions, and backgrounds.
As a Library Assistant I, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to library patrons, assisting the public with the use of library resources and technology, and performing detail-oriented work. In this role, you will be expected to assist with various library functions, including checking materials in and out, shelving books, and preparing new materials for checkout. You will also play a key role in promoting library programs and services, explaining library policies to all ages, and ensuring that all visitors have a positive experience. The Library Assistant I will work closely with other staff members to maintain the library's organization and cleanliness, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere for all users.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills - Some knowledge of practices, principles and techniques of modern public library operations. Ability to learn routine library procedures. Ability and skill in the use of computers/mobile technologies/Microsoft Office/Internet. Flexibility, ability to multitask, and adaptability required. Must have effective organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certifications – Must have high school diploma or GED. Prefer minimum 1-3 years of work experience in municipal or similar library operation. Experience working with the public and/or customer service preferred. Must be willing to attend educational workshops as required.
The schedule for this position is Tuesday-Saturday. Most shifts are 9am-6pm during the week and 8am-4:30pm on Saturdays. Must be available to work 11am-8pm on Tuesdays or Thursdays, on occasion.
