Job summary

The San Felipe Pueblo Library seeks a Library Aide to deliver professional and courteous customer service to patrons, staff, and visitors during business hours and as needed.

Responsibilities include circulation duties, shelving, assisting with programs, tech support, and maintaining a welcoming, safe library environment while supporting Learning and Cultural Outcomes and grants.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Fluency or semi-fluency in Keres preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, or related software.
  • 1 year of experience in a professional setting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Prefer a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and courteous library customer service and support to patrons, staff, and visitors.
  • Provide support during regular library hours and coverage to ensure consistent service hours.
  • Create a welcoming, safe, clean, and organized environment for patrons and staff.
  • Use the library’s automated circulation system to check materials in/out, process holds, register borrows, and enforce policy.
  • Prepare materials for circulation and identify items for weeding from the catalog.
  • Assist patrons with technical needs and troubleshoot library resources.
  • Answer phone calls, take messages, and direct callers with courteous phone etiquette.
  • Catalog new arrivals and reshelf materials using the established system.
  • Assist with afterschool programs in-person or virtually.
  • Contribute to Learning and Cultural Outcomes and/or other grants goals.
  • Maintain the library and department spaces and ensure equipment is in good condition.
  • Report incidents related to patrons, facilities, or collections to supervisors.
  • Collaborate with Education Department coordinators to create engaging learning opportunities.
  • Ensure the security and care of the library building, equipment, and collections.
  • Assist with research for patron inquiries and provide the best possible help.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Description:

The Library Aide will provide professional and courteous library customer service and support to library patrons, staff, and other visitors during business hours and as required.

  • Provide support during regular library hours and provide call-in and leave coverage to ensure adequate support and consistency in service hours.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to library patrons, staff, and guests.
  • Provide a welcoming environment for patrons, staff, and guests in a safe, clean, and organized environment.
  • Use the library’s automated circulation system, perform circulation functions including checking materials in and out, processing holds, registering borrows, informing patrons of the status of their accounts, and conveying and enforcing library policy.
  • Prepare materials (books, DVDs, magazines, laptops, etc.) for circulation and identity worn, damaged and outdated items for weeding and deletion from the catalog.
  • Assist patrons with technical needs and troubleshooting relative to library resources.
  • Answer phone, take messages, and direct callers utilizing professional and courteous phone etiquette.
  • Cataloging new arrivals and reshelf materials using the established library system.
  • Assist with afterschool in-person or virtual programming.
  • Assist with the carrying the goals and objectives relating to Learning and Cultural Outcomes and/or other grants.
  • Assist with the maintenance and organization of the library and department spaces.
  • Ensure library materials are kept in reasonable condition by inspecting, cleaning, and repairing incoming circulated materials and equipment.
  • Report any incidents and/or issues with patrons, facilities, equipment, and/or collections to the Education/Library Manager or Education Director.
  • In cooperation with the other Education Department Coordinators/Managers, create fun and engaging learning opportunities for patrons within our service area.
  • Responsible for ensuring the security and care of the library building, equipment, collections, furnishing, etc.
  • Troubleshoot/Assist with research for inquiries and requests by patrons, ensuring you help to the greatest extent possible.
  • Or other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Works in office. Sits for long periods of time. Some lifting is required.

Qualifications:
  • Education: HS Diploma or high school equivalency is preferred.
  • Experience/Basic Knowledge:
  • Fluency or semi-fluency in Keres is preferred.
  • Ability to work with community members of all ages.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, or related software.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment and accurate keyboarding skills necessary to manage clerical and cataloging duties.
  • 1-year experience in a professional setting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to adhere to a flexible work schedule that will include nights and occasional weekends.
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: Prefer a valid driver’s license.
  • Physical Requirements: Significant standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
