County of Solano's library system seeks a Librarian (Supervising) to plan, organize, supervise and participate in the work of a library division or branch. The role includes overseeing budgets, engaging with the public and external partners, and developing programs of community interest.
The position blends first-line supervisory duties with professional librarian work, requiring knowledge of modern library methods to serve diverse patrons.
Under general direction, the Librarian (Supervising) plans, organizes, supervises and participates in the work of a division or alibrary branch of the County Library System. The Librarian (Supervising) oversees budgets for materials and supplies; has regularcontact with the general public, outside organizations, and other County/City personnel in connectionwith library activities and operations; develops programs of community interest and serves as a member ofthe department’s supervisory team.
The role of the Librarian (Supervising) is characterized by the combination of first-line supervisory duties and responsibilitiesinclusive of interpreting, enforcing and carrying out assigned duties within the framework of establishedCounty and library policy coupled with the performance of professional librarian work. This workrequires a broad knowledge of contemporary professional methods and techniques to serve a variety ofcustomers with differing needs.
The Librarian (Supervising) receives direction from a Library Branch Manager, Deputy Director of Library or Support Services, orAssistant Director of Library Services.
The Librarian (Supervising) exercises supervision over professional, technical, and clerical staff.
Education:Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library Science or related degree from an accredited college or university is required (see Document Submittal section of this job announcement for instructions on submitting education documentation);AND
Experience:Three years of experience performing professional librarian duties.
Independent travel is required.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license may be required.
