and Learning Resources approved salary schedule

Primary Purpose
Provide visionary leadership in learning resources, instructional support, and digital innovation to work with students, teachers, and the school community to develop a culture of literacy across Irving. Provide services and a wide variety of resources that encourage students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems, serve as teacher, resource expert, and instructional partner to involve the library in the instructional programs of the school. Promote pleasure-reading activities that foster the development of life-long readers.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Certification:
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Master’s degree in a directly related field from a recognized accredited college or university; Master of Library Science preferred.
- Valid Texas School Librarian Certificate OR
- Current enrollment and completion of a minimum of 12 hours in an accredited Master of Library Science/Master of Library and Information Science program recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board with anticipated graduation within two years of the date of hire AND
- Successful completion of the School Librarian Certification examination within two years of the date of hire.
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of library and information science
- Instructional technology proficiency
Minimum Experience
- At least two (2) years of exceptional performance as a classroom teacher
- Leadership experience (preferred)
- Proven instructional skills in working with students, staff, and the school community
Major Responsibilities And Duties
- Effectively plan and administer the library program to meet campus and district goals.
- Promote a campus-wide culture of literacy.
- Demonstrate knowledge of classroom curriculum and instructional content in various disciplines to support student learning.
- Collaborate with teachers to create high-level and engaging lessons incorporating research and information literacy.
- Train faculty, staff, and students in the use of digital resources.
- Establish, communicate, and model standards of conduct, monitor student behavior and respond to student misbehavior appropriately.
- Demonstrate knowledge of best practices in school libraries, trends in research, and digital literacy.
- Provide a safe, attractive, and user-friendly environment that promotes a positive learning climate.
- Use a systematic analysis to assess and weed materials and maintain a viable and current collection.
- Select print and digital resources that adhere to board policy, align with curriculum, and reflect diverse points of view.
- Maintain accurate, current, and easily accessible records including reflections submitted to the director every six weeks, circulation stats, database usage, inventory reports, transaction receipts and overall statistics of library usage.
- Regularly attend monthly director-led librarian PLC meetings and other district training as required.
- Demonstrate a positive relationship with students, teachers, and the school community.
- Provide effective leadership and supervision (where applicable) for library clerk, student helpers, and parent volunteers.
- Maintain a library webpage and social media presence with the assistance of the media specialist (where applicable) that is up-to-date, interactive, and demonstrates the library program’s impact.
- Serve as an innovative instructional leader, problem-solver, and model of life-long learning for the campus.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics and all district policies.
- Comply with and support all district and local campus routines, policies, and regulations.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education, and the local board in the area of library services including but not limited to copyright and censorship.
- Perform other duties as directed by the principal and/or Learning Resources Program Director.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Occasional in-district travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Safety
Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
