Job summary

St. Ambrose Catholic School in Houston is seeking a part-time Library Manager to oversee the daily operation of the school library for Pre-K through Grade 8, fostering literacy and information literacy while supporting the school's Catholic mission.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Summary

St. Ambrose Catholic School seeks a key member to the school's instructional team. The Part-Time Library Manager is responsible for the daily operation and management of the school library, serving students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The Library Manager fosters a welcoming environment that encourages literacy, lifelong learning, information literacy, and a love of reading while supporting the academic mission and Catholic identity of the school. This position collaborates with teachers to provide library resources that enhance classroom instruction and promotes responsible use of library materials and technology.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Library Management
  • Maintain an organized, attractive, and student-centered library.
  • Catalog, classify, circulate, and inventory library materials using the school's library management system.
  • Select, order, process, and maintain books and other instructional resources within the approved budget.
  • Repair and replace library materials as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate circulation records and prepare reports as requested.
Instructional Support
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum and instructional goals.
  • Assist students in locating and evaluating age-appropriate print and digital resources.
  • Provide instruction in library skills, research strategies, digital citizenship, and information literacy as appropriate.
  • Promote reading through book talks, displays, reading challenges, author studies, and other literacy initiatives.
Student Services
  • Create a welcoming environment that encourages independent reading and inquiry.
  • Foster responsible library use and appropriate student behavior.
  • Assist students in selecting books that match their interests and reading levels.
Technology and Resources
  • Support the use of educational technology and digital library resources.
  • Maintain library equipment and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright laws and acceptable use policies.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain library procedures and circulation policies.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and purchasing recommendations.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise library volunteers when applicable.
  • Maintain communication with faculty, administration, students, and parents regarding library programs and services.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and/or Dean in support of the school's mission and daily operations.
Catholic Mission
  • Support and uphold the philosophy, mission, and teachings of the Catholic Church and the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
  • Model Christian values and foster respect, compassion, and service within the school community.
  • Participate in school masses, faculty meetings, and professional development as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Education, English, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a school library or educational setting preferred.
  • Experience with library management software and educational technology.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, and volunteers.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move boxes of books and instructional materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and shelve materials throughout the workday.
  • Ability to operate standard office and library equipment.
Work Schedule

This is a part-time position, generally 1520 hours per week, with a schedule determined by the principal based on the needs of the school.
