Job description

Ngā Kete Wānanga o Ōtautahi Christchurch City Libraries connects people with ideas, information, stories and creativity. This role is based on the Tūhuratanga / Discovery floor at Tūranga, our award-winning central library. Surrounded by a rich non-fiction collection, you'll help foster learning, curiosity and community connection.

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated and creative professional to join our team. You will have a passion for engaging with our community and the skills and confidence to develop, promote and deliver innovative library programmes, events and services.

You will be:

  • An avid non-fiction reader with a keen interest in topical issues and a passion for helping others discover new ideas and interests
  • A people-person who thrives in a customer-facing environment
  • A creative thinker with the drive to turn ideas into action
  • A confident communicator, comfortable leading groups and speaking in public - or keen to grow in this area
  • Flexible, resilient and adaptable in an ever-changing environment

In this rewarding role you will move seamlessly from leading a library programme to engage the community, to writing a non-fiction reading guide for the library website; from promoting library resources and services at a public event, to helping customers explore our collections and digital resources on the library floor. It is an active role which will keep you moving.

Hours of work - 37.5 hours per week; Tuesday to Saturday with one regular evening shift per week
Position - Permanent full-time
Location- This position is primarily based atTūranga, Level 3 (and other floors or locations as required)
Salary-The salary band for this position goes from$61,407 to $68,231 per annum based on a37.5 hourweek. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
