Job summary

Maricopa County Library District is seeking a Librarian to deliver professional library services for all ages and to provide engaging programs. The role emphasizes customer service, collaboration, and continuous learning as you support our diverse community.

Responsibilities include reference services, program planning, collection curation, outreach, and instruction on digital resources. This Sun City assignment offers growth within the county library system.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school.
• Currently enrolled in a master's degree program in library science from an ALA-accredited school and within one month of anticipated graduation date.
• Please note: include anticipated graduation date in the application.
• We also value paid/public library experience and experience building programs for adults.

Responsibilities

• Plan and present library programming and conduct tours, visits, and outreach.
• Provide reference and reader advisory services and respond to customer questions in person, by phone, and online.
• Facilitate public reading programs and report library statistics.
• Evaluate and cull the collection and liaise with central selectors for materials.
• Oversee advisory groups, coordinate volunteers, and lead when appropriate.
• Prepare displays, posters, bibliographies, bookmarks, and promotional materials.
• Instruct patrons on PCs, online catalog, databases, and Internet use.
• Serve on standing or ad hoc committees.

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

We Require

• Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school

OR

• Currently enrolled in a master's degree program in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school and are within one month of your anticipated graduation date

Job Contributions

• Prepare book displays, create posters, bibliographies, bookmarks, bulletin boards, games, and promotional displays
• Instruct library patrons on the use of PCs, the online catalog, various databases, and the Internet
• Serve on standing and/or ad hoc committees

Working Conditions

• Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
• Ability to exert up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, and requires walking/standing to a significant degree
