Under general supervision, provides training and other forms of technical assistance in instructional strategies, educational planning, behavioral management, and student assessment to teachers of students with disabilities, including students diagnosed with autism, intellectual disabilities, specific learning disabilities, and emotional and behavioral disorders.

Essential Functions :

The following duties are representative of this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Develops, models, and provides training to Lead Teachers for Special Education as well as special education and general education school-based staff in effective classroom management, instructional strategies, and specialized issues related to students with disabilities.
  • Serves as a mentor and coach to improve teacher performance and student achievement.
  • Trains and monitors teachers in specialized curriculum implementation, student assessment, and data collection.
  • Provides technical assistance regarding data analysis related to IEP goals and objectives.
  • Adapts and modifies curriculum materials based upon individualized student needs to provide meaningful access to grade level curriculum for students with disabilities.
  • Consults with parents, teachers, and administrators regarding issues relating to student performance; assists in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for students.
  • Provides technical assistance in behavior crisis situations and develops / monitors appropriate behavioral intervention plans.
  • Provides written documentation of classroom and student observations to teachers and administrators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university in relevant educational field required.
  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Curriculum Development, Education Administration, or closely related area is preferred.
  • Minimum five years of special education classroom teaching or closely related experience is required.
  • Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in the appropriate educational field at level T-4 or above required.
