Job summary

Zurich North America is seeking a Liability Trial Attorney to support our Chicago, IL staff legal office on a hybrid schedule, with in-person presence one day per week at Willis Tower. You will handle moderate to high exposure General Liability, Commercial Auto, Products Liability and employment matters.

The ideal candidate has a Juris Doctor, 5+ years of litigation experience, IL Bar admission, and proficiency with litigation software.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree and Illinois Bar in good standing.
• Minimum 5+ years in Litigation with insurance defense preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Lexis/Westlaw.

Responsibilities

• Represent commercial insureds in General Liability, Auto, Products Liability and employment cases.
• Prepare pleadings, file documents, and perform legal research.
• Conduct pre-trial discovery and manage hearings and trials.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and strong case analysis.

Zurich is seeking a successful Liability Trial Attorney to work out of our Chicago, IL Staff Legal office on a hybrid schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work in person one day per week at Zurich’s Chicago Staff Legal Office in Willis Tower.

This Liability Attorney will be responsible for representing the commercial insureds of a prestigious and financially stable commercial insurance carrier, by preparing and trying moderate to high exposure General Liability, Commercial Auto, Products Liability, and employment cases from a challenging and varied caseload.

The selected candidate will perform duties encompassing all aspects of insurance defense, including initial investigation and legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conducting pre-trial discovery, preparing for and aggressively handling hearings and trials, and conducting post-trial activities where appropriate. We are looking for demonstrated case analysis ability, a track record of proven trial and settlement skills and the ability to work independently without substantial supervision.

Basic Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in the Litigation area
  AND
• Member in good standing of the Illinois State Bar Association
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe
• Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw
• Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance defense litigation legal environment
• Knowledge of the law and procedure

Preferred Qualifications:

• Trial experience
• Experience working in a team-based environment
• Effective problem solving and analytical skills
• Member in good standing of the Indiana State Bar Association

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your expectations are above the listed range, we still encourage you to apply—your unique background matters to us. The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location. The proposed salary range for the Trial Attorney is $125,000.00 - $155,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%.
