Job summary

NDT.org is seeking a Level III Rope Access Technician to actively lead field and offshore operations, supervise crews, and ensure safety and readiness across piping, pipelines, and vessels. You will perform rope access inspections, maintenance, and repairs with advanced technical skills and strong leadership.

The role requires coordination with project managers, flexible travel, and on-the-job training of team members while offshore. Offshore experience and IRATA III certification are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with rope access.
  • IRATA Level III certification is required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to obtain: TWIC, HUET, Safe Gulf Training, Passport.
  • Must meet company certification standards and have experience with inspection/NDT.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect offshore structures, vessels, and pipelines for appurtenances using fixed or preset instruments.
  • Examine materials for anomalies such as cracks or corrosion.
  • Coordinate with project managers and customers to maintain workflow and satisfaction.
  • Take cathodic potential (CP) readings using a drop-cell technique.
  • Create drawings to supplement written data.
  • Oversee equipment inspection and replacement and related logistics.
  • Travel offshore or out-of-town as needed, sometimes with short notice.
  • Provide on-the-job training, mentoring and assessment of team members offshore.
  • Serve as Level III Rope Access Supervisor and perform project management offshore.

This role encompasses safety management, work site organization, and supervisory responsibilities, providing leadership to work crews on various projects. The technician oversees and executes rope access operations, including inspection, maintenance, and repairs. Advanced technical skills, leadership abilities, and a strong commitment to safety are essential for this position. The NDT Technician Level III will perform rope access industrial inspections onshore/offshore of piping, pipelines, pressure vessels, and mechanical and structural components.

Functions
ESSENTIAL
  • Inspect offshore structures, vessels, and pipelines for appurtenances in conformance to specifications, using fixed or preset measuring instruments.
  • Examine materials or products for anomalies, damage, or defects such as cracks, pits, incomplete welds, holes, dents, excessive corrosion, etc
  • Communicate and coordinate with Oceaneering project/operation managers and customers to maintain consistent workflow and customer satisfaction
  • Take cathodic potential (CP) readings using a "drop-cell" technique
  • Make appropriate drawings and sketches to supplement written data
  • Manage the inspection and replacement of equipment, as well as other logistical tasks associated with maintaining a sound state of readiness
  • Travel out-of-town or overseas, when needed, sometime with short notice
  • Provide or arrange on-the-job training, mentoring and assessment of team members while offshore.
  • Serve as a Level III Rope Access Supervisor and carry out project management, while working offshore.

This position has NO direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
REQUIRED
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with rope access
  • Must hold IRATA Level III certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have ability to obtain:
  • Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET)
  • Safe Gulf Training
  • Valid passport
  • Must have ability to meet company certification standards.
  • Complete knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Previous experience with Inspection and/or non-destructive testing (NDT)
DESIRED
  • ASNT Level II certifications
  • Petzl – PPE Training & Inspection Certification

Working Conditions
  • This position is considered OFFSHORE WORK which is characterized as follows.
  • Outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over/near water.
  • Requires working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
  • Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels and the light is intense/glare.
  • Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
  • Constant exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
  • Work surface is stable, height is elevated.
