Job Summary

Performs all aspects of direct respiratory care according to physician orders and protocols. Consults with physicians on therapy effectiveness and makes appropriate recommendations. Provides ventilator support and maintains cardiopulmonary life support equipment. Properly utilizes respiratory care equipment.

Essential Functions

• Demonstrates knowledge of oxygen delivery modes and equipment; conducts prescribed therapeutic procedures.
• Administers therapies, understanding their purpose, benefits, and potential effects.
• Evaluates current therapies independently, making care and education recommendations.
• Works independently across patient care areas, assisting colleagues as needed.
• Documents therapy and communicates with the healthcare team.
• Performs blood sampling analysis, understanding results and implications.
• Completes annual proficiency evaluations of respiratory equipment and procedures.
• Proficient in electronic medical records and department interfaces.

Physical Requirements

Repetitive physical activity; ability to walk, stand, lift 20-50 pounds, and move patients of all ages. Adequate hearing and eyesight required. Exposure to odors, low lighting, and crowded conditions possible.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Care program. Associates RRT or equivalent required; Bachelor's preferred. Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by NBRC. Licensed in North Carolina. BLS required; advanced certifications per policy. Critical care experience (2 years) required for certain roles. Progression aligned with the Respiratory Therapist Clinical Ladder.
