Level 5 Heavy Equipment Operator is expected to execute the directions from the Site Foreman with the capabilities to operate all equipment on a job site. This position requires leadership when a crew is needing direction to execute work properly. The goal of a Heavy Equipment Operator is to perfect their craft and learn from the Site Foreman about the processes and expectations of a job site.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Report to the Site Foreman.
- Operate and maintain heavy machinery on construction job sites.
- Work closely with foreman to ensure project/job assignments are met.
- Operate all heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, skid steers, and other related equipment.
- Request/Confirm locate ticket and location of utilities before excavating/digging on any site.
- Operate the equipment in a safe and productive manner. Communicate properly with those in the field to prevent injury or damage.
- Perform periodical safety, maintenance, or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment.
- Inform and advise management or mechanic for repairs or maintenance. Perform Lock-out Tag-out Procedures.
- Operate equipment in successive passes over working area, observing reference stakes or hand signals of assisting team member to level surface to specified grade.
- Proficient in shooting and calculating grades.
- Operate the equipment manually and/or electronically.
- Work in adherence to safe practices, procedures, work site or traffic laws.
- Perform any other work necessary on a job site to complete the job at hand – typically at the direction of the Site Foreman.
- Proficient knowledge of plans and scope of work.
- Dig all trenches with proper slope and/or benching for proper man entry in accordance to the soil classification(s).
- Perform daily maintenance of equipment (i.e., Keeping cab clean, knocking out filters, greasing equipment, etc.).
- Complete daily inspection reports for any equipment used that day.
- Adhere to all Wofford Earthworks, LLC contractual obligations with all clients.
- Wear all Personal Protective Equipment on a job site.
- Provide guidance, advice, feedback and support to your team as a representative of a team member mentor.
- Record your Time IN and Time OFF through the ADP App on your own personal mobile device.
Required Capabilities:
- Grading with GPS
- High to Extensive Equipment Experience (skid steer, excavator, loader, etc.)
- Mass Grading
- Stake Grading
- Fine grading
