WVU Medicine’s Level 1 Trauma Program is seeking a Trauma PI Coordinator to work with the Trauma Program Manager and interdisciplinary teams. You will evaluate trauma care quality from prehospital care to discharge, coordinate PI activities, and support data-driven improvement initiatives at the Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center.

Requires RN licensure, a relevant allied health degree, and trauma care experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in allied health fields and two years trauma care experience or an Associate's degree with three years trauma care.
  • Current RN license in-state or multi-state license via eNLC.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Preferred: CEN/CFRN/CPEN/CTRN/TCRN or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience with PI/QI and trauma research; familiarity with EMR data extraction is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidential PI activity records and audit trails.
  • Ensure compliance with state trauma designation regulations and ACS standards.
  • Develop action plans for process improvement and ensure follow-through.
  • Coordinate trauma education programs for physicians, nurses, and pre-hospital staff.
  • Coordinate TNCC and RTTDC trainings and TNCC instructor activities.
  • Collaborate with Trauma Registry to ensure accurate data collection and queries.
  • Support organization-wide continuous improvement and PIPS initiatives.
  • Participate in national TQIP programs and share data with leadership.
  • Oversee the Trauma PIPS plan, audit filters, and protocol updates.
  • Represent WVU Medicine on regional and national forums as directed.
  • Document and share data for peer reviews and committee meetings.
  • Develop monthly data reports and support data validation efforts.
  • Help develop interdisciplinary clinical protocols with Trauma leadership.

Below, you’ll find other important information about this position.The Trauma PI Coordinator works in collaboration with the Trauma Program Manager (TPM), Trauma Medical Director (TMD), Associate Trauma Medical Director (ATMD), Trauma Nurse Clinician (TNC), Trauma Outreach and Injury Prevention Coordinator, and the interdisciplinary team that participates in the management of care provided to the injured patient. The Trauma PI Coordinator evaluates the quality of trauma care from the prehospital setting to hospital discharge. The Trauma PI Coordinator is responsible for coordination and facilitation of the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Program (PIPS) including injury prevention activities, data collection, analysis, trending and benchmarking of data and outcomes. Participates in trauma registry data collection, data validations, understanding of injury scoring, statistical data analysis, and report design to support outreach, injury prevention and research initiatives. Collaborates with trauma program leadership to ensure compliance with the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services Trauma Designation regulations, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards in relation to maintaining Level 1 Trauma verification, and the hospital facility quality measures related to Performance Improvement at Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center (JMMTC).**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:****EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:**1. Bachelor’s degree in allied health fields **AND** two (2) years experience in trauma care **OR** Associate's degree in allied health field **AND** three (3) years experience in trauma care. 2. Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). 3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:****EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:**1. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN), Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN), Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN), Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) or equivalent advanced certification.2. Obtain Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) certification within 6 months of hire and TNCC Instructor certification within 1 year of hire.**EXPERIENCE:**1. Knowledge and ability to use various computer programs including the EMR (EPIC), Microsoft programs such as Word, Publisher, Excel, Teams, data base management, and report writers.2. Maintains current knowledge of and ensures compliance with the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services Trauma Designation regulations, the American College of Surgeons standards, and the hospital facility quality measures related to Performance Improvement.3. Develops and assists team members in developing action plans for process improvement and ensures follow through and loop closure on these plans.4. Assist with development and providing trauma related education programs for physicians, nurses, pre-hospital personnel, and allied health professionals as learning needs are identified via mail surveys, requests, site visits, course evaluations, and latest trends in the care of the trauma patient. Coordinate with CEOD and applicable agencies to ensure that CEUs/CMEs are provided for healthcare providers when applicable.5. Coordinate and/or teach established educational programs including but not limited to Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) and Rural Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC).6. Works closely with the Trauma Registry to ensure accurate data collection and identification of performance improvement audit filters and events. Works with registry staff to develop and execute queries from the registry, using standard query tools.7 . Participates in organizational-wide continuous improvement projects as it relates to the Trauma Performance and Patient Safety program (PIPS).8 . Participates in the national trauma performance improvement program (TQIP) by Collaboration with the trauma leadership team and other key stakeholders to implement the annual Trauma PIPS Program plan.9. Oversee and support the written Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center Trauma PIPs plan. This will include development of Audit Filters, event tracking and trending as well as assist with identifying the need for additional protocols/guidelines or adjustments to those that are already in place.10. Represents JMMTC and WVU Medicine on various regional, state and national forums as directed.11. Coordinates and/or documents all performance improvement activities i.e. weekly Trauma PI meeting, chart review, peer review presentation, include follow up and loop closure.12. Coordinates, prepares for and participates in the monthly interdisciplinary Trauma PIPS Committee. Shares appropriate data and document all information for the peer review protected minutes.13. Develops and maintains monthly data reporting and tracking. Oversees data validation efforts to ensure data reliability as it relates to PIPS activities.14. Assists with developing interdisciplinary clinical protocols in consultation with Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Coordination Team and the appropriate multidisciplinary team members.15.
