Job description

Leidos Energy is a ~$1.4B business, and one of Leidos' five growth pillars under the NorthStar 2030 Strategy, with ambitions to exceed $2B in the next few years. As Senior Manager, FP&A, you will be a key financial leader supporting the Vice President, Finance & Business Operations (F&BO) and the broader Energy Leadership Team, driving the forecasting, reporting, and analytical rigor that underpins the business's growth strategy, investment decisions, and operating performance.

At Leidos, we deliver innovative solutions through the efforts of our diverse and talented people, guided by a commitment to doing right by our customers, our people, and our communities.

About Leidos Energy

Leidos Energy is an ENR top-ranked energy engineering provider to a broad range of investor-owned utilities, coop utilities, energy project investors and developers, power generators, and well-known industrial clients. Our commercial services include electric and gas transmission and distribution (T&D); generation, investor, and developer consulting and analysis; energy efficiency facility engineering; utility energy efficiency program design and implementation; digital utility services; communication system engineering; and project management across a broad range of energy-related projects.

Based in Reston, Virginia, this role sits at the intersection of Leidos' deep government-market expertise and a rapidly evolving energy and infrastructure market - a distinctive opportunity for finance professionals from government contracting or commercial backgrounds to grow into a fast-scaling commercial energy business, without leaving the broader Leidos ecosystem.

The Role

This is a hands-on FP&A leadership role for a business-minded finance professional who combines strong technical and analytical depth with the ability to influence decisions across a complex, matrixed organization. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Business Operations (F&BO) - Energy, the Senior Manager will lead core FP&A processes - forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and management reporting - while helping modernize the F&BO operating model through advanced analytics, automation, and responsible adoption of AI.

The Senior Manager will lead a team of approximately 4-5 FP&A professionals within the ~100-person F&BO organization and will partner closely with the Leidos Energy SVP & Business Area Manager, F&BO Division Leaders, Program Finance/Project Controls, cash management, and Accounting to ensure consistent, accurate, and timely financial insight across the business.

Why This Opportunity
  • Visible leadership role within a strategic Leidos growth pillar, supporting a $1.4B to $2B+ growth journey
  • Direct exposure to the VP F&BO and Energy Leadership Team, with a clear line of sight to executive decision-making
  • A career pathway that blends energy, infrastructure, technology, and government-market financial capabilities
  • Opportunity to help build a next-generation, AI-enabled FP&A function from the ground up
Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, monthly/quarterly forecasting cycles, and long-range planning for the Energy business
  • Own management reporting and variance analysis, translating financial data into clear, actionable insight for the VP F&BO and Energy Leadership Team
  • Support the VP F&BO in preparing executive-level business reviews, monthly operating reviews, and ad-hoc analyses on business performance, growth initiatives, and investment decisions
  • Partner with F&BO Division Leads to ensure forecast accuracy and consistency across programs and the consolidated business
  • Help modernize the FP&A operating model through advanced analytics, automation, and responsible adoption of AI, improving forecast accuracy and decision speed
  • Analyze business trends across the six portfolios (e.g., revenue, pipeline, margin, customer demand) and proactively flag risks and opportunities to the VP F&BO.
  • Monitor macro-economic factors affecting energy and utility markets, including interest rates, inflation, and tariffs, and assess their potential impact on portfolio performance.
  • Use publicly available utility spend data to benchmark performance, identify market opportunities, & support forecasting.
  • Contribute financial and operational analysis to support M&A, joint ventures, and other inorganic growth evaluation as needed
  • Partner with Operations, Growth, Business Development, and Technology teams to support profitable growth
  • Ensure strong financial controls and compliance with IRS, SEC, and other applicable regulatory requirements in partnership with Accounting and the Corporate Controller's Office
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of FP&A professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Exemplify Leidos values of integrity, inclusion, innovation, agility, collaboration, and commitment
What Success Looks Like

Within the first 12-18 months, this leader will:

  • Establish a reliable, accurate, and timely forecasting and reporting cadence that the VP F&BO and Energy Leadership Team rely on for decision-making
  • Make measurable progress modernizing FP&A processes through analytics, automation, and AI-enabled tools
  • Build strong, trusted working relationships with F&BO Division Leads, Accounting, and business partners across Operations, Growth, and Technology
  • Develop a high-performing FP&A team and identify future leaders within it
  • Be recognized as a go-to financial partner for business performance insight within the Energy business
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related discipline
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, financial management, or related functions, including experience leading and developing a team
  • Experience supporting a large, complex business, ideally within a $1B+ revenue organization
  • Demonstrated experience operating successfully in a matrixed enterprise environment
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and variance analysis skills
  • Proven ability to translate data into insight and communicate clearly to senior leaders
  • Strong understanding of analytics, automation, and emerging technologies, including AI, and their application to FP&A
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
Preferred Qualifications

We welcome candidates whose experience has been built in energy, utilities, infrastructure, engineering services, government contracting, or similarly complex regulated/project-based businesses. Deep expertise in one environment combined with demonstrated ability to learn and operate across adjacent markets is highly valued.

  • MBA, CPA, or equivalent advanced degree
  • Experience supporting businesses through periods of significant growth and scale
  • Experience with AI-enabled operating models, advanced analytics, or digital transformation initiatives
