Job summary

Washington State Senate in Olympia is hiring Session Aide positions to support Democratic Senators during the 2027 legislative session. These full-time, temporary roles begin on or about January 4, 2027, and run through the scheduled end of the 2027 session.

Duties include greeting visitors, scheduling meetings, drafting correspondence, tracking bills, and maintaining records. Candidates should have office experience, strong communication, discretion, and proficiency with Microsoft Office;

Qualifications

• Administrative experience and knowledge of general office practices.
• Interest in public service and learning about the legislative process.
• Ability to work collaboratively and interact with diverse backgrounds.
• Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to exercise professional judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
• Comfort with a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with video conferencing software.

Responsibilities

• Serve as first point of contact for the office by answering phones and greeting guests.
• Take meetings with constituents, lobbyists, and advocacy groups.
• Draft correspondence and respond to e-mails, mail, and hotline inquiries.
• Communicate with constituents about legislation.
• Provide state-related case work assistance to constituents.
• Track progression of bills through the legislative process and follow up on committee hearings.
• Maintain office records in accordance with Public Records Act.
• Conduct research to respond to inquiries and follow through to conclusion.
• Gain skills in other legislative processes as time and training allow.
