Job summary

The New York City Mayor’s Office in Albany, NY is seeking a State Legislative Affairs Legislative Representative to forge productive relationships between the executive and the New York State Legislature and to help advance the Administration’s agenda through state law and the state budget.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience in NY State legislative processes and ecosystem, with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work

The Team You’ll Work With:

The Mayor’s Office of State Legislative Affairs serves as the principal liaison between Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Administration and the New York State Legislature.

The Problems You’ll Solve:

The State Legislative Affairs Legislative Representative will work towards fostering productive relationships between the executive and legislative branches and assist the Mayor's administration in developing and advancing the Administration’s agenda through State law and the State budget.

About You

• You can demonstrate the understanding of and experience with any combination of the following: the State legislative process, public policy analysis, New York City or State agency operations, and lobbying.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• 2+ years of relevant experience in New York State legislative processes and ecosystem.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Do you have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university?
2. Do you have an associate degree from an accredited college or university along with two (2) years of experience with administrative, analytic, coordinative, supervisory or liaison responsibilities?
3. Do you have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent approved by a state's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization along with four (4) years of experience as described in question "2" above?
4. Do you have a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that described in questions "1," "2," and/or "3" above?

Preferred Skills

• You have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills, along with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently, which are imperative.
• You have strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
