Responsibilities

  • Represent the company in meetings with municipal officials, county leaders, utilities, planning departments, and state agencies.

  • Partner with land acquisition, development, construction, legal, and leadership to identify regulatory risks and strategies.
  • Advocate for modernized public policies that support housing growth and development efficiency.

Salary Range

$120,000- $130,000/yr. depending on experience.

This role will work directly with municipalities, cities, counties, utility providers, and state agencies to address issues related to zoning, building codes, development regulations, infrastructure requirements, utility coordination, and other public policy matters impacting the homebuilding process. The ideal candidate will combine strong policy judgment, relationship-building skills, and a practical understanding of residential development to help advance the company's strategic growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor, analyze, and respond to proposed and existing local and state laws, ordinances, regulations, and policy initiatives affecting residential land development and homebuilding.
  • Represent the company in meetings and negotiations with municipal officials, county leaders, utility companies, planning departments, code officials, and state agencies.
  • Review and evaluate zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations, building codes, utility requirements, and related governmental policies for their impact on current and future development projects.
  • Partner with internal teams, including land acquisition, development, construction, legal, and executive leadership, to identify regulatory risks and develop strategies to overcome barriers to development.
  • Advocate for reasonable and modernized public policies that support housing growth, affordability, and efficient development processes.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with elected officials, staff, industry groups, consultants, and other stakeholders throughout Missouri.
  • Coordinate the company's participation in public hearings, community meetings, planning and zoning matters, and legislative discussions.
  • Track emerging issues affecting homebuilding, including infrastructure, utilities, stormwater, environmental regulations, permitting practices, and housing policy.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, position statements, and recommendations for executive leadership on public policy and legislative matters.
  • Support strategic efforts to improve and streamline regulatory processes that affect the company's ability to deliver housing efficiently and responsibly.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in public policy, political science, law, urban planning, real estate, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, municipal affairs, land use, development, legislative affairs, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of zoning, land use, building codes, utility coordination, and development approval processes, preferably in Missouri.
  • Experience working with cities, counties, planning and zoning bodies, utilities, or state agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex policy and regulatory issues.
  • Strong negotiation, relationship management, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple issues and priorities in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Experience in homebuilding, real estate development, infrastructure, public sector planning, or construction-related policy strongly preferred.
