Job summary

The State of Oklahoma seeks a skilled photographer to document legislative sessions, events, and official portraits at the Oklahoma State Capitol. You will build and maintain an extensive archive and deliver high-quality images for publications and communications.

The role requires strong technical photography skills, adaptability, and customer-service orientation, with the ability to work as part of a team and occasionally in the evenings during sessions.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a professional photographer, ideally with experience in event coverage and portrait photography.
• Proficiency in digital photography and photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, ACDSee).
• Strong understanding of composition, lighting, and visual storytelling.

Responsibilities

• Take high-quality photographs of state legislators, government officials, events, and activities within the Capitol and its surroundings.
• Document legislative sessions, committee meetings, and other significant events held at the Capitol.
• Capture professional portraits of lawmakers, executives, and distinguished guests as required.
• Capture and showcase the art and the building in a visually compelling and accurate manner.
• Organize and maintain an extensive photo archive of Capitol events and historical moments for future reference and historical documentation.
• Coordinate with government officials, communications teams, and event organizers to ensure photography needs are met effectively.
• Edit and retouch photographs as needed to ensure high quality and adherence to established standards.
• Provide photographs for use in official publications, reports, social media, and other communication channels.
• Manage the printing and distribution of high-quality images for legislators, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to specified requirements for official use and personal requests.

Overview

The Legislative Service Bureau is seeking a skilled and creative photographer to join our team, which provides a range of photography services to the members of the Oklahoma Legislature. Photographers document the business of State government throughout legislative sessions, take official State portraits, capture special events, and document historical moments. The ideal candidate for this role has strong technical skills, the ability to adapt quickly, is customer-service oriented, and works well in a team.

Education And Certification

• Bachelor’s degree or certification in Photography, Visual Arts, Journalism, or a related field is preferred.


• Equivalent professional experience may be considered.

Working Conditions

• The role is primarily based at the Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City.


• Will require standing for extended periods during events.


• Traversing multiple sets of stairs daily with limited use of elevators.


• Sitting for extended periods of time while editing photos.
