Job summary

Northern Michigan University is offering a paid internship position in the Lansing offices of Michigan State Representatives for the Fall Semester 2026. Interns will assist Member staff with operations, fostering constituent relations and monitoring legislation.

Ideal candidates will be college students, veterans, or participants in job entry programs. Flexibility is key in scheduling, typically taking place Tuesdays to Thursdays when the House is in session. Some travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

This is an application for the Intern Pool in the Lansing offices of Michigan State Representatives for the Fall Semester 2026. Your documents will be collected and added to the pool of the party of your choice. If a Member office is interested in an interview, they will reach out to schedule.

The paid internship position allows for the intern to have the opportunity to assist the Member and their staff with general office operations including constituent relations, communications, and monitoring legislation. The selected candidate will gain valuable hands-on office and legislative experience in a fast-paced environment.

Applicants must be a college student, veteran, or participant in a job entry program. Strong applicants will have a positive attitude, previous office experience, knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, telephone skills, and writing skills. Knowledge of the legislature is preferred but not required.

Paid intern work schedules are flexible but generally take place Tuesdays-Thursdays when the House is in session. Some travel to the district may be required.
