Job description

Krieg DeVault LLP is seeking to hire legislative intern(s) for the 2027 Legislative Session. The internship is full-time beginning the first week of January. The 2027 Legislative Session is a long session, which by statute must end no later than April 29, 2027. The end date of the internship is somewhat flexible; however, we usually retain our interns at least one week after the last day of session. It is anticipated that interns will work primarily at the Indiana State House and Government Center. On days when the General Assembly does not convene, interns are expected to work in our Indianapolis office. The salary is to be determined and will be based on the prior experience, if any, of the prospective interns. Most colleges and universities grant credit for this internship, but the allocation of that credit is at the discretion of the school.

Essential Job Duties

Krieg DeVault legislative interns will be responsible for assisting Governmental Affairs Practice Group members with a variety of duties related to the policy making process. These duties will include: bill tracking, attending committee meetings and preparing memos on meetings, preparing weekly reports for clients, organizational tasks, information gathering and other tasks as needed.

Minimum Requirements

Successful candidates will be able to adapt to the fast-paced environment of the legislative process, demonstrate poise during last minute schedule changes, and respond to the various needs of practice group members in a timely and accurate manner. Attention to detail is of the utmost importance. Successful candidates will also possess excellent organizational skills as well as oral and written communication skills. Legislative interns must demonstrate a high level of professionalism as they will be exposed to and need to interact with elected officials, legislative staff and other governmental affairs professionals.
