Job summary

Oregon Legislative Policy & Research Office (LPRO) in Salem is seeking an ASL interpreter intern for the 2027 legislative session. The internship runs January through June 2027 and about 25 hours per week.

You will work as part of LPRO’s Language Access Team, gaining experience in public testimony and remote proceedings, under a mentor, with nonpartisan duties and professional interpreting practice.

Qualifications

• Be a senior in an ASL interpreting program at a qualified educational institution.
• Strong desire to learn about the legislative process through hands-on experience.
• Ability to work effectively in a nonpartisan role and serve individuals with differing political and policy perspectives.

Responsibilities

• Support nonpartisan staff interpreter in a state legislative setting including public testimony and remote proceedings.
• Work collaboratively with LPRO’s Language Access Team and mentors to develop interpreting skills.
• Gain exposure to a variety of legislative topics while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
