Position Summary

The Legal Secretary (LS) provides a wide range of legal secretarial functions for Assistant State Public Defenders, such as ensuring the appropriate, timely and accurate processing of legal documents, and correspondence. In addition, this position is responsible for providing accurate, timely, responsive legal secretarial office service, while maintaining effective working relationships. Salary Information

This classification is in pay schedule/range 02-12 with a starting salary of $23.41 per hour. A one-year probationary period will be required.

Permanent classified state employees who are eligible for consideration (transfer, voluntary demotion, or reinstatement) for a position assigned to the stated pay range or counter-part pay range, should complete the application process as described above by the stated deadline.

Final selected candidates may be eligible for moving expense reimbursement to relocate to the place of employment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required – Candidates must have Experience And/or Training Relevant To These Areas In Order To Be Considered For This Position):

  • Providing administrative, clerical or office support (e.g., greeting visitors, answering phones, mail distribution, etc.)
  • Working with computers (e.g., word processing, database entry, email, scheduling, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Proofreading documents (Note: Your cover letter will be used to assess your proofreading abilities and will be assessed for proper punctuation, grammar and spelling)

A well-qualified candidate will also have experience and/or training in the following areas:

  • Working in a law office and/or with the criminal justice system
