Job description

About Emerald AI

We’re at a pivotal moment for AI and energy. Demand for compute is skyrocketing, but power constraints are becoming a critical bottleneck. Emerald AI sits at the intersection of these two worlds, enabling AI data centers to scale without overwhelming the grid.

Our Emerald Conductor software platform makes data centers flexible and responsive, allowing them to adjust power usage dynamically. This unlocks massive AI growth without major new infrastructure, while also strengthening the grid and supporting the expansion of renewable energy.

We’re a team of experts across AI, cloud, software, and energy—on a mission to scale AI sustainably. We’re backed by leading investors and partners including Radical Ventures and NVIDIA.

About the Role

We're looking for a Legal Secretary to serve as the operational engine and a key contributor to our Legal team. This is a high-impact role, working with a legal team that interacts with every part of the company.

You’ll work directly with the Head of Legal & Policy across a variety of matters, serving as a key contact, responding to requests from business partners and counterparties, and managing complex and growing activities.

This role requires a high degree of ownership and judgment—you’ll be expected to operate independently, prioritize effectively in a fast-moving environment, and exercise discretion with confidential and sensitive information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with drafting, editing, proofreading, and filing legal documents and correspondence

  • Build and manage organizational systems; improve and automate existing processes

  • Provide executive and administrative support to legal team, from scheduling to communications and correspondence

  • Prepare meeting materials, agendas, and briefing packets; track action items and follow-ups to completion

  • Coordinate travel, hearings, conferences, and other engagements

  • Manage contracting intake through execution; build and maintain contract repositories

  • Track filing deadlines and comment windows across federal, state, and international regulatory proceedings; assist with assembling and submitting filings and monitoring dockets

  • Design and document repeatable processes for recurring legal workflows, including contract intake, signature routing, deadline tracking, and matter management

  • Conduct research, summarizing and compiling findings for legal team

  • Manage outside counsel and vendor coordination, including engagement logistics and invoicing; manage relevant budgets

Minimum requirements
  • 4+ years of experience as a legal secretary, legal assistant, paralegal, or legal operations coordinator, in a law firm practice group or in-house legal department

  • Ability to manage multiple and competing tasks, processes, and activities; experience maintaining contract repositories and providing administrative support across commercial activities

  • Experience with contract administration and e-signature platforms

  • Adept in executive and administrative support

  • Exceptional attention to detail, discretion, and judgment handling confidential information

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to interact professionally with executives, regulators, and outside counsel

  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and a fast‑paced environment

Preferred requirements
  • Hands‑on experience with AI tools and workflow automation

  • Experience with technology, AI/ML, or energy‑related companies and/or industries

  • Experience building and improving upon legal processes and structures

  • Familiarity with regulatory docket and filing systems

What We Offer
  • Make an impact. Solve the AI power bottleneck and shape how data centers scale sustainably.

  • Join a world‑class team of AI, cloud, software, and energy experts in a collaborative, low‑ego environment.

  • Build from 0→1. Influence strategy, GTM, org design, and customer/investor engagement from day one.

  • Competitive pay + equity. Stock options let you share in the value you help create.

  • Comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) matching.

  • Flexible location. Work from D.C., Boston, or the Bay Area, with 2 WFH day/week.

  • Backed by top investors, including Radical Ventures and NVIDIA.
