LexisNexis Legal & Professional is seeking an Associate Legal News Copy Editor to edit daily legal beats, verify facts, and write news articles. The role reports to the Editorial team and requires strong copyediting, legal understanding, and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced news operation.

The successful candidate will demonstrate hard news copyediting experience, a journalism/communications background, and the capacity to work Eastern Time hours with independence and accuracy

Qualifications

Hard news copyediting experience and strong news judgment.
Ability to multitask and reprioritize through the day.
Comfort explaining complex legal topics to varied audiences.

Responsibilities

Edit legal news copy for clarity, accuracy, readability and style.
Check legal terminology and procedural accuracy; verify facts.
Review headlines, leads and copy; apply house style consistently.
Review legal citations and case information; ensure accuracy.
Protect against substantive editing errors; identify gaps and ambiguities.
Write news articles and explain court opinions when needed.
