Job summary

Job description

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is internationally known for its expertise and excellence in cancer research and clinical care. The institute, a non-profit organization, is a principal teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School and a federally designated comprehensive cancer center. The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) at Dana-Farber is responsible for all legal work relating to the activities of the Institute. The OGC provides legal counsel in the following areas: labor and employment; contract development, negotiation and review; compliance; charitable and non-profit corporation matters; charitable fundraising; real estate, including permitting and leasing; general corporate and strategic matters; corporate secretary responsibilities; state and federal regulatory matters; medical staff, hospital and physician payment; litigation management; patient care; research and scientific integrity, patent prosecution and other intellectual property matters; material transfer agreements; and technology transfer. Students will be asked to assist OGC attorneys with a variety of matters based on Institute and departmental needs, as well as the expressed interest areas of the student. Some examples of work requests may include: researching legal questions and drafting memos, drafting emails to clients, drafting or updating institutional policies, reviewing and updating contract templates, evaluating consent documents -- all with the guidance and assistance of the OGC attorneys. The student will be included in many of the activities of the OGC and will be invited to join staff attorneys in attending institutional meetings and other opportunities to learn more about Dana-Farber and the Office of General Counsel.
