Job summary

Sunrise, through its Dreem Health platform, is seeking a Legal Director to design and scale the in-house legal and compliance framework for nationwide growth. The role reports to the COO and leads regulatory strategy, healthcare compliance, and corporate governance for a digital health service across all states.

Ideal candidates have a JD, active U.S. bar, 7+ years in health-tech or digital health, and deep HIPAA/HITECH experience, including BAAs and privacy counseling.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school and active U.S. bar admission.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant legal experience, including in-house experience at a telemedicine or digital health company.
• Strong HIPAA/HITECH expertise, including negotiating BAAs and privacy counseling.
• Experience advising on state telehealth laws, licensure, and professional entity issues across multiple jurisdictions.
• Proven track record in a high-growth startup or scale-up with substantial autonomy.
• Working knowledge of healthcare fraud and abuse laws (e.g., Anti-Kickback Statute).

Responsibilities

• Design and scale the legal and compliance infrastructure for Sunrise's growth.
• Oversee regulatory strategy, healthcare compliance, and corporate governance for a national digital health platform.
• Lead HIPAA/HITECH programs, BAAs, and privacy counseling.
• Guide state telehealth, licensure, and professional entity matters across jurisdictions.
• Develop AI and data governance frameworks to enable safe deployment of clinical AI tools.
• Ensure strong legal guardrails while supporting rapid business execution.
