We are looking to fill the newly created position of Legal Counsel, Sanctions and Export Control. The position will report to the Senior Legal Counsel, Sanctions and Export Control and work collaboratively with the U.S. and global Export Control teams.
This role will be remote, with the expectation of working within the Eastern Time Zone during regular business hours.

In this role you will be responsible for furthering Siemens’ commitment to compliance with U.S. export control and sanctions laws and regulations. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of export and sanctions laws, regulations, and administrative agency practice including, but not limited to, the Bureau of Industry and Security’s Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls’ International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) regulations, and U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) economic sanctions.

What are your responsibilities?
- Provide legal advice on export controls and sanctions to business operations, senior business leaders, and other key stakeholders on a broad range of export & sanction-related regulatory, commercial, and diligence matters.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support, further develop, and implement Siemens’ export and sanctions compliance program.
- Assist the Siemens M&A teams with export and sanctions-related pre- and post-acquisition diligence.
- Participate in the implementation and enforcement of a governance framework, including defining and implementing control processes, and early detection and testing/monitoring plans to ensure operations remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Conduct item classification determinations, draft export license applications and advisory opinions, and participate in submission of disclosures or responses to government inquiries.
- Participate in and lead teams of compliance and business colleagues to ensure ongoing and relevant monitoring of export and sanctions compliance risks are assessed to identify potential areas of improvement and developing/implementing mitigation strategies, such as customized compliance programs, policies, processes, and other corrective actions.
- Proactively identify and assess potential risks, and work with legal, policy, and operational teams to develop risk mitigation approaches and drive cross-functional implementation.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
- A law degree from a U.S. accredited law school and be an active member in good standing with a state bar association that will be their principal work location is required.
- A minimum of 7 years legal experience working as an attorney on trade matters in a government agency, law firm, or in-house legal department in an international environment
- Expertise in export controls and sanctions, including the EAR, ITAR, and OFAC regulations.
- Able to meet federal government security requirements.
Successful candidate must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US Export Control Law. US Export Control laws and applicable regulations govern the distribution of strategically important technology, services and information to foreign nationals and foreign countries. - Excellent communication, written, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to confidently present to the C-Suite and work across organizational lines and time zones around the world.
- Experience with evolving regulations for cutting-edge technologies, including subject areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and software is preferred.

The pay range for this position is $164,710 - $282,360. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
