Job summary

HappyRobot is seeking a smart, business-oriented Legal Counsel to protect IP and negotiate commercial agreements. You will work with product, engineering, sales, partnerships, and operations to ensure scalable, compliant contracting and strong IP protection.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years in law, strong SaaS/NDAs/DPAs experience, and a solid grasp of GDPR. This role demands pragmatic risk management and cross-functional collaboration, within a fast-growing AI infrastructure company.

Qualifications

• Admitted to and in good standing with the bar of at least one EU country.
• 6+ years of relevant legal experience at a law firm and in-house startup/tech company.
• Strong experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating SaaS agreements, MSAs, NDAs, DPAs, and contracts.
• Solid understanding of EU data privacy laws, including GDPR.
• Experience handling IP matters: trademarks, patents, copyright, licensing, IP ownership.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication with pragmatic risk focus.
• Strong commercial judgment balancing risk with business priorities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and high contract volume.
• Ownership mindset and cross-functional collaboration.
• Proven ability to work with business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements.
• Advise on commercial, IP, and data privacy matters for product and partnerships.
• Review DPAs and advise on EU privacy regulations including GDPR.
• Support IP strategy: trademarks, patents, copyright, licensing, ownership.
• Assist with open-source compliance and IP assignment matters.
• Build scalable legal templates, playbooks, and workflows.
• Provide business-oriented legal guidance to enable growth.
• Monitor regulatory developments affecting commercial, IP, and data privacy.
