Axiom is seeking an immediately available legal contractor to support its payments and regulatory function for a 3–4‑month engagement. Working with senior leaders across payments, risk, and compliance, you will deliver pragmatic regulatory advice in a fast-paced, product-driven environment.

The role offers flexible location, weekly hours, and seniority level, provided you can operate autonomously and deliver commercially grounded regulatory guidance.

Qualifications

• Experience in payments and financial services, preferably in tech-enabled or product-driven settings.
• Strong knowledge of licensing, AML requirements, and regulatory risk frameworks relevant to payments operations.
• Ability to communicate complex regulatory concepts clearly in fast-moving, cross-functional settings.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a flexible contract model (3–4 months, part-time or full-time).

Responsibilities

• Assist in expanding payments products across Australia, US, and UK markets.
• Provide guidance on AFSL, AML, and broader risk obligations to Product and Engineering teams.
• Deliver regulatory insight and risk mitigation for strategic initiatives and incidents.
• Build relationships with regulators and technical subject-matter experts.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Privacy teams to embed financial-crime considerations in design.
• Support day-to-day legal operations to maintain momentum across the payments workstream.

This role sits within a fast‑paced, product‑driven environment and will work closely with senior leaders across payments, risk, and compliance to maintain momentum while permanent hiring is underway. The engagement offers full flexibility on location, weekly hours, and seniority level, provided the contractor can operate autonomously and deliver pragmatic, commercially grounded regulatory advice. This opportunity would suit a payments‑focused legal professional who thrives in agile, tech‑enabled settings and is comfortable managing varied workstreams across product development, regulatory interpretation, and cross‑functional stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities:

• Assists in the development and expansion of payments products across the Australian, US, and UK markets.

• Communicates complex regulatory concepts clearly and works effectively in fast‑moving, cross‑functional settings with minimal oversight.
• Manages multiple priorities confidently and fits within a flexible engagement model, whether full‑time for a shorter period or part‑time across the full 3–4‑month term.
