The Department of Labor & Industry is currently looking to hire a Legal Assistant Supervisor to oversee a team of Legal Assistant 2s within the Central sector. This role is crucial for ensuring that Unemployment Compensation (UC) appeals are processed accurately and promptly, adhering to both UC law and the regulations set forth by the Unemployment Compensation Board of Review (UCBR). The supervisor will provide essential administrative support to the Central Sector Program Manager, ensuring that all reports are completed and submitted on time. Additionally, this position involves reallocating tasks among Referees and legal assistants as needed, as well as coordinating with other offices in different sectors to facilitate the efficient handling of UC appeals. In this position, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing the activities of multiple Legal Assistant 2s who provide essential support to Referee staff in managing unemployment compensation (UC) appeals that involve complex legal matters. You will monitor workflow, assign daily tasks to team members, and ensure that all work is completed efficiently and systematically. Your role will also involve participating in the review and processing of legal documents, organizing case files, scheduling hearings, transcribing decisions, engaging in public contact, and performing general office duties, all in compliance with UC laws, regulations, UCBR procedures, and relevant court decisions. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Central sector Management Technician to deliver initial, ongoing, and remedial training as necessary, ensuring that operations run smoothly and performance standards are met. This will require you to maintain a comprehensive understanding of both your unit's functions and the responsibilities of other employees in the Eastern sector. You will also be tasked with training new Legal Assistants 2 and providing feedback to Referees for employee performance evaluations. Furthermore, you will review the work of your subordinates and other support staff for accuracy and timeliness, taking corrective action when deficiencies or errors are identified. You will manage the redistribution of legal assistant tasks between offices as workloads fluctuate and coordinate with other sectors to secure additional support when required. In addition, you will supervise and coordinate the efforts of annuitant clerical assistant 3s within the sector. Your role will also involve assisting the Program Manager with daily office operations, which includes reallocating workloads as necessary and reassigning cases in the event of unexpected absences among UC Referees. You will also aid the Program Manager in securing backup Referee and legal assistant support from other offices to address peak workloads or shortages in staff. Lastly, you will oversee the hiring of contracted interpreters, whether in-person, over the phone, or for sign language services, ensuring that interpreters are scheduled appropriately and that any cancellations are managed promptly.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as a Legal Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Five years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including two years of legal clerical experience; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
