Legal Assistant Paralegal (remote in Knoxville or Maryville, TN with some travel for Notary)

Job Summary:
As a Paralegal, you will provide essential support to the Chief Legal Counsel by assisting with various legal tasks related to real estate transactions, property management, and compliance matters. You will travel in Knoxville and Maryville for occasional notarization of company documents. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in U.S. legal practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Assist in the preparation, review, and management of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and leases related to real estate transactions.
- Have a strong understanding of the real estate transaction process, including acquisitions, financing transactions, title and survey matters, and dispositions.
- Provide administrative support to the legal department, including scheduling meetings and managing correspondence.
- Maintain and organize legal files, ensuring all documents are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with U.S. laws and regulations.
- Support the Chief Legal Counsel in managing compliance issues, including regulatory filings and reporting requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of corporate governance materials and resolutions.
- Must be located near the CEO in Maryville, TN, to notarize legal documents for him.
- Coordinate with external counsel and other stakeholders as necessary.
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information to support ongoing cases and projects.
- Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations that may impact the company’s operations.
- Devote all working time, attention, knowledge, and skills to the employer’s business interests, doing so in good faith and with best efforts.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with similar roles.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field; Paralegal certification is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in real estate law or related fields within a U.S. legal context.
- Strong understanding of U.S. real estate laws and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficient in legal research tools, Microsoft Office Suite, Google G-suite, Adobe, and other relevant software.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and multitasking abilities.
- Must be a Notary or start the process upon hire and become a Notary Public ASAP.
- Independent, proactive, and effective in a remote work setting.
- Familiarity with property management regulations is a plus.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Work 5 days per week, M-F, during business hours (8-5 or 9-6 ET).
- Work up to 8+ hours daily, with occasional longer days.
- Reliable internet connection required.
- Quiet, professional workspace needed.
- Ability to lift 15-25 lbs for office equipment movement; assistance available.
- Sit for extended periods, using computer and phone.
- Occasional physical activity such as climbing, kneeling, or crouching.
- Unpaid or paid breaks as per law, if hourly.
