Idaho Transportation Department has an opening for a Legal Assistant in our Headquarters location in Boise, Idaho. This position will assist Deputy Attorneys General in representing the Idaho Transportation Department in all litigation matters such as condemnations, contract claim disputes, DMV and administrative judicial issues. Provide administration support for vendor payments, client questions, and travel arrangements. Coordinate administrative hearings. Research statutory requirements, case law, or other topics as needed. Maintain and organize legal documents into a searchable database.

NOTE: A criminal background check is required before a final job offer is made.

Example of Duties

• Draft court pleadings;
• Maintain electronic documents for litigation matters;
• Conduct legal research;
• Manage and prioritize workload;
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all work matters.

Minimum Qualifications

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position.

Good Knowledge of

• Legal research methods;
• The court system and procedures;
• Legal ethics.

Experience

• Interpreting and analyzing judicial decisions and statutes;
• Identifying and preparing appropriate legal documents;
• Applying facts to case law in analysis and briefs;
• Drafting legal documents and related correspondence;
• Using a tickler system and tracking documents on a computerized database.

Desired Qualifications

• Paralegal Certificate or 3 years of legal assistant experience
