A leading law firm is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Legal Appeals Specialist to join their team remotely. This role is responsible for managing and resolving denied legal billing transactions through timely and accurate appeals. The ideal candidate will have experience in legal billing and accounts receivable (AR), and a strong understanding of client/third-party billing systems within a law firm setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and track all denied legal billing transactions from clients and third-party billing companies.
  • Submit formal appeals by preparing and resubmitting corrected billing verbiage and/or required documentation.
  • Notify attorneys of fee denials and ensure appeal deadlines are monitored and met.
  • Collaborate with AR and legal teams to resolve cost-related denials, update status, and ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain and update records of all appeals submitted and monitor their progress through resolution.
  • Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders (attorneys, billing, AR) to ensure alignment and timely follow-up.
  • Assist in improving denial and appeals processes to minimize future occurrences.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in legal billing and/or AR within a law firm environment.
  • Strong understanding of billing guidelines, appeal processes, and client-facing billing platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience with billing software (e.g., Aderant, billblast) is preferred.
