Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an Accounting Technician to support accounting, auditing, and financial management through accurate collection, recording, and maintenance of general ledger accounts and subsidiary records.

The role requires time-in-grade compliance, specialized accounting experience, and the ability to work with various accounting systems. Scheduling is Monday–Friday, with standard federal work hours and on-site duties in Portland, Oregon.

Qualifications

• Time-In-Grade requirements apply to current Federal employees or applicants for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act.
• Specialized Experience: one year at GS-06 level or equivalent in budget, accounting, payroll or financial management.
• Experience interpreting accounting principles and methods, and using accounting systems to maintain records.

Responsibilities

• Performs clerical or technician work in support of budget, accounting, auditing, or financial management.
• Maintains general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers; determines accounts and entries.
• Prepares reconciliations and control documents; monitors daily reports and financial data.
• Assists auditors and participates in quarterly audits of various accounts.
• Ensures proper audit trails and timely reporting to Treasury and VA management.
